Several years ago, I had the pleasure of writing Shark Conspiracy, a somewhat contrived article expressing my views on the dangers of swimming in a predator’s bath tub. Little did I know, at the time, that there was a gentleman from Florida who did not appreciate my suggestions on the particulars of how we aided and abetted the shark in his eating habits. I think that he felt the sharks should take a wide-birth around coastal waters, so that he and many others wouldn’t run the risk of becoming a dietary supplement.

I appologized to the gentleman and forgot all about the article until recently, when I was reminded that everything we write may not be found to be the article we intended. My intentions were to produce an article from the shark’s POV, and list a few well-known facts that contribute to the deaths of individuals during the shark season.

I admire and respect sharks as the eating machines, scavengers, and predators of the sea that they have proven themselves to be; however, it’s apparent that some people wish they would go away. The problem of the food chain and unacceptable members of the chain, is without some of them, others would cease to exist. If the sharks have to disappear, I’m voting for the animal that goes as a result, to be the rat. Rats are unacceptable, nasty little creatures that make messes much nearer home. Of course, it’s likely that the rat would vote the humans out, and, so the struggle between nature and man continues. Sharks or rats…it doesn’t matter, man is more likely to do himself in before either the shark or rat have a chance to suffer from over-population, or extinction.
