Education Failure: Teachers in the Rubber Room

Published by dfallis at 1:05 pm under Living, News, Politics Edit This

There was a time when certain sectors of the community were held to a higher standard (pastors, lawyers, doctors, teachers) than what exist now. Pastors were men of the cloth and not to be found in motel/hotel rooms with hookers. Lawyers were men that saw to it that the system of justice was upheld, not the men most often breaking the law. Doctors were the gods that people looked to for guidance in health matters, and praised for their bedside manner, not the men who were seducing their patients, and teachers were the people with whom every adult entrusted their children for eight-long hours a day, and certainly not the men or women that would be the worst influence in a child’s life. For so many people, all these illusions of up-right citizenry have been replaced by vulgar, insensitive, and detestable people.

This morning, yahoo news featured a piece on the 700 teachers that exist each day within the rubber rooms of our school system. It wasn’t really news, as Fox news had a feature as early as October of 2007, but it indicates another sector of the population that has fallen to the dark side while reporting on what is news and what people should know. Sadly, these are 700 individuals out of thousands that serve as educators in school districts around the country. These 700 stand as examples of the lack of morality that has become the face of a once great nation. The 700 are also a black eye to every teacher who has ever wanted to educate children. The same thing that happens to the great teachers in our nation happens to many in different walks of life; there is no news unless it can be sensationalized and will ignore those who serve well and true.

Many of us love history because of that one teacher who took the extra time while designing her assignment to understand that history can be exciting. She sat a few long hours thinking how best to explain and educate children about something as simple as Washington crossing the Delaware. She applied the same amount of time to lessons that gave insights into the Native American culture, so that we would understand and appreciate the plight of those who had been molested harshly in pursuit of land and wealth. And finally, with that great love she held for history, she bestowed in each small heart a flame that would burn forever, as we too became adults. These are the teachers that should be remembered, should be in the news, and should be held as examples of educators, not the wastelings in rubber rooms who sit daily contemplating their fates for several million tax dollars, yearly.

There will always be those who came to a fate that they did not deserve, but for those who are in the rubber rooms across this country, we can only hope that their time as a teacher did not damage to the young, fresh minds that sought education.

    Hallelujah.

I had teachers both good and bad like the millions. I enjoy reflecting on the good ones. I feel scarred by the bad ones… Their neglect and disrespect can have that effect unfortunately.

    defallis,
I must disagree sir, with due respect, I think preachers have been covorting with hookers in hotel rooms for quite sometime and before hotel rooms in the back of the church. I do believe the FBI had the goods on Dr. King for that very thing. I think today we are in a different age of information exchange and we have differnent standards about what is acceptable to discuss. I mean Clinton got impeached over lieing about a blow job and Kennedy was banging Marlyn Monroe but everyone had the good taste not to discuss it openly nor did they discuss the fact that his brother was banging her too… I mean hell Monroe sang him “happy birthday” like she was ready to go down on him right there and his wife was sitting right next to him.
I do however think you are correct about a change in MD’s. I think some 50yrs ago or so most MDs were seriously interested in bettering their communitys. But today l think very few give a fuck about their patients or their communitys, I think the vast majority of them are in the field for ego and money. I spent 12 yrs in the medical field and can count on both hands the MDs I really respected and thought had admirable integrity. And a number of them were from developing nations who came here for education and planed to return to their home countrys to better the lives of those in their home country. So yes things have changed in some ways but in other ways it has more to do with what we are willing to discuss in public and our ability to gather information when in the past it was much easier to burry incriminating info.
As for the 700 teachers story I think it was done in typical FOX style more sensationalism than substance. But it does reflect how due process is going down for the count in this country. I mean it sounds like a fucked up story but I don’t think it was very well elaborated on and it seemed like it was designed to evoke an emotional response in the absence of substantive information.

I know the feeling Judy. I had the really great history teacher in 7th grade, and the truly horrible, scary English teacher in 8th grade…one the most delightful woman I’ve ever encountered, the other the most frightening woman and I think she was married…LOL

dsent, the key words were “once held to different standards.” I doubt that Martin Luther was the first pastor to ever sneak around on his wife, but Hoover had it “in” for Reverend King…however, that said, Hoover had it “in” for a good many people with files in the thousands on the Kennedy brothers, alone. If you would really like to know about the Kennedy brothers (Jack, Robert, and Teddy), I recommend a book by Seymour Hirsch “The Dark Side of Camelot.” As to the “700″ number, it was reported on yahoo as the number, as well. I do watch Fox News, because they report everything; whereas, MSNBC, CNN, and now joined by the ultra liberal ABC, seem to water down the news. I like mine unfiltered.

Oh, shootz it makes me sad that you feel compelled to watch FOX if I may be so bold as to recomend www.democracynow.org 5days a week NON-corporate news where the facts matter more than who is reporting them also www.fair.org every friday they come out with a program called “Counterspin” where they demolish lies that get reported in the corporate press. I hope you have a chance and an inclination to check them out.
    Peace

You may recommend other means of getting news to anyone and everyone you wish, but to assume that there is any news out there that is not run by some form of corporations is a false assumption. I don’t bend to the idea that one should be shamed away from watching Fox News, I’m unashamed and proud to have the good sense to get my news undiluted and predictated to me. In our home, we don’t suffer from delusions of grand parties who will rule our nation for with our best interest without knowing what that interest might be.
