American Republic: The life we once led

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, Politics Edit This

Those who grew up believing that “if you did not earn it, it is not yours” are a dying breed replaced by the robbers, burglars, and purse-snatchers who never earned anything but expected to be given everything. Redistribution of wealth is not a constitutional ideology, it’s a well-known penal consideration rationed by the courts in the name of justice.

Suppose you win $10 million in the lotto, and there are nine people who are demanding that you give them each a million, would you do it? Most of us would not, we would likely donate to charities and our churches, but we would not evenly distribute the wealth because the other nine people have done nothing to claim that they are owed a million each.

Redistribution of wealth assumes that you’re owed simply because you exist. You did nothing to deserve the money, you have lived your life as you please and now see an opportunity to gain through another’s labor.

No one will ever oppress the man that has oppressed himself through slacking. No one will ever owe you for existing-other than your parents and even they have a time limit, age 18. If you break into a man’s house and he shoots you, he does not owe you for the injuries incurred because he was protecting what he earned and deserved to possess. If you are harmed by a product that clearly stated “side effects,” the drug company does not owe you because they told you “up front” that there were side effects (sixteen fingers does have an advantage). If you smoke and then are diagnosed with lung cancer, you knew the risk. The tobacco company does not owe you. If you have successfully completely 4, 6, or even 11, years of college, the work force does not owe you an opportunity and you may be expected to start at the bottom of the ladder.

If you doubt these things, then try telling Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Mel Gibson, or any number of millionaires and billionaires that they owe you because you exist. These people worked hard and long to accomplish the paychecks their services demand, and they do not owe you anything. Earn it…it’s yours, steal it and the law will make a just decision by placing you in a facility with the thousands of others who chose to take what did not belong to them. It’s not only the law of the land; it’s the law of nature. Check it out!

Freedom belongs to the man that is willing to fight for it, money belongs to the man who earns it, and stupidity belongs to the man that sits idly waiting for the other two men to give him what he desires.

The Finalist: The next food network star

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, News Edit This

Well, Ms. Soul to Soul Debbie got the ax last night and the contenders for the Next FoodNetwork Star are Melissa from Texas, and Jeffrey (ex-corporate bigwig to cuisine school graduate). We have watched the whole season, and felt that Debbie should have been gone several times, but finally, finally last night she got the ax. Melissa has improved over the season, and she seems to have come into her own as a culinary expert, but she still holds onto the meandering tales from childhood, growing up a military brat with a pilot mother who committed suicide…which the panel seems to see as endearing, and we have seen repeated throughout reality show hell. If Jeffrey makes it, we will watch his show, as we do Big Daddy Aaron from last season, but the season prior to Big Daddy’s win was another whiny housewife whose show did not last a season…thank God.

The feel sorry for me reality show theme seems to have taken on a life of it’s own within the last couple of years. American Idol, FoodNetwork Star, and the family oriented shows such as Jon and Kate, are full of whining, backstabbing, and hard-luck stories…maybe it’s reality but it’s also a depressant that a bottle of Xanax would not cure. It makes shows like I Love Lucy, Slam Bang Theatre, and The Three Stooges seem appealing, once again. Even the Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney had more of a plot and less fighting than Jon and Kate and FoodNetwork Star. Having said that, it leads to this, for the first time in a long time we watched Ni Hao Kai Lin this morning, because the news was even predictable.

We’re still fans of Ice Road Truckers and maybe the roller coaster hills of the Haul Road have had something to do with that, but check it out, this season they have a young lady with a good deal of sex appeal who can haul with the best of them, including the Polar Bear and Alex. There’s little whining, a good deal of scenery and a really “feel-good” effect from watching Ice Road Truckers. There’s something for everyone, in the adult category, and even our little 6-year-old grandson likes the 18-wheels and broken axels of the northern road in Alaska. Swerves and curves (Ice Road Truckers), or baked goods and cuisine (Iron Chef America), some reality shows are still worthwhile.

Transparency: The three-year-old’s version

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, Politics Edit This

Angelface

Alyssa is three-years-old, cute as a button, learning to manipulate, and full of bull chips on a daily basis. This morning’s escapade included getting more than her fair share of pink lemonade, not eating her pop tart, and forcing her will upon her 6-year-old brother and myself. She’s claiming to have a stomachache because I have refused to give her another glass of pink lemonade. I’m not being mean or overly strict, I’m being stern in order to avoid her actually getting a stomachache and leaving what she did eat of her breakfast on the floor.

Pawpaw (my husband and her grandfather) had a conversation with her on Tuesday that went something like this:

Alyssa: I hit my head on the floor…I know it, I know it.

Pawpaw: Where did you hit your head?

Alyssa: On the floor, I know.

Pawpaw: What did the doctor say?

Alyssa: Uhuh, the doctor said…(this much was not discernible as any part of the English language).

The gist of which is, she didn’t go to the doctor because Alyssa hits her head at least 5 times a day. Most injuries that children receive are done by themselves and generally involve the head. The case of transparency, with Alyssa, is that she will make it seem as horrible as possible, it will always be someone or something else to blame, and it is unfair to her because she is just to adorable to lie. All-in-all, she is a perfect candidate for congress or the oval office; however, in her defense its assumed that she will grow out of her version of the truth.

Emergency Warnings: The U S nears catastrophe every time a politician speaks

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, News, Politics Edit This

Obama is promising that the U S cannot resolve the economic problems we face without, well, health care reform-this month. Newt Gingrich warns that we are on the verge of catastrophe if we do not spend money on defense-homeland security. And, the American people see a catastrophe if we do not quit spending altogether…but what do we know?

It’s way past time that the politicians just slowed things down a bit. The most important thing in most American’s minds is the loss of jobs and getting back on track and back to work. We’re in a perpetual state of catastrophe when our government continues to spend money with no “real” plan in mind. It’s get worse by the day, and people continue to lose jobs by the day. Now, both the democrats and republicans are concerned with gaining votes in the next year, and no one is really too concerned about the economy. That’s the one area of political conscience where all agree that the economy will either get worse or get better. It’s sort of like poison ivy, if you quit scratching the itch the rash won’t spread.

While a catastrophe could easily be defined as a complete meltdown of all known organization, it is certain that the state of congress and the administration are already in a catastrophe. The question is, when will they begin to reorganize sanity in Washington D. C. and get back to economic recovery? It’s very possible that a man with a cancerous tumor growing inside him will care little about ‘cap and trade’ or ‘health care reform’ because starving to death is equally as painful as dying from a corrupt government that is showing no sign of recovery or conscience.

Health Care Reform has little to do with this economy nor has it figured into most past administrations, as is evidenced by the lack of health care reform over the last 40-years during which the economy has been solvent and thriving, and has been in dire trouble. Homeland Security is more dependent on the man or woman in charge of our security than the dollars and cents spent to initiate one or another plans to make us more secure. The real catastrophe today, is the loss of minds while worrying about stability. Yes, George, Barack, Bill, we need to have peace of mind and jobs, not money that we don’t have spent on plans/projects with no real solution. Shut up already, and fix this mess.

Finally: Intelligence rears its head

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, News, Politics Edit This

For several months, well…since the inauguration, emails have been passed around with a question, “How do you confuse a liberal” and the answer is, “You try to talk to them using logic and facts.” While I’ve never believed that you can “lump-sum” anyone or any group, the text of what Janeane Garofalo said in an interview with an English host could seem to confirm the question/answer portion of the emails. She was in England for a comedy tour, but chose to do a spot for the BBC wherein she announced that there is no liberal media in America. Okay??

Does MSNBC ring a bell with this sk**ky woman? She should know since she has spent a good deal of time bashing republicans, conservatives, and anyone who does not see the world through her political eyes. What has happened to make her think that liberal media has been quashed? Hm, maybe the fact that the media, reporters, and most Americans have grown tired of the starry-eyed version of some really unappealing lies by this administration. MSNBC, who hopes to profit from ‘Cap and Trade,’ and CNN (no idea what’s happening there) have all but sunk their outfits with liberally-loving, cooing, admiration for the “One.” Simple, dear Janeane, the love affair is over and the media is waking up to the thing which most in America value next to family; the truth. If the truth hurts, then re-think your thinking. Okay, it’s Janeane Garofalo, does she think?

She does deserve “Kudos” for having learnt what purpose a bar of soap has, because she looked somewhat clean in the photo; however, it could have been good photo-shop usage.

Trees: The real victims of congressional spending

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, News, Politics Edit This

It’s increasingly more difficult for those producing polling results to generate positive numbers, more difficult for those protesting to get their voices heard, and even more difficult for politicians to have illicit rendezvous without the nation knowing where, when, and who, but the real victims of this congress are the trees that have given life and limb for congressional proposals.

If you were a tree standing in a forest where there are timber rights, your limbs would quiver, your leaves dry up and fall off (the equivalent of going bald), and your roots would grip hard at any rumor of congressional proposals (feel those savings accounts dwindling). Never have so many given so much to accomplish so little. No, we’re not tree huggers per say, but we’re beginning to feel as a country the way a forest must feel once all bets are off; lost, scared, and in danger of losing our livelihood when thousands of pages of red ink and small print go unread in the senate.

With Pelosi leading senate attitudes, and no one to stop her, we could be part of the good ole USS of R by Christmas. Nah, that’ll never happen with the Russian dignitaries having a cool…ah, cold attention span for the “rock star” president. They no longer wish to destroy us; they’ve seen what a great job the last election has done for them. Of course, the obvious is that the Russians had a whole forest wiped out by a meteor, last century, and we have congress to do the job under Obamanation.

It’s a Migraine: Nope, it’s a virus

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living Edit This

Me dying…haha

Tuesday afternoon, I thought it was just the grandchildren wearing me down when I felt the headache hit me…but no, it’s a virus and a fairly debilitating one, at that. You don’t want to eat because your head hurts too much to chew, and the blinding headaches are not all you get with this one, there are all the pleasant “flu-like” symptoms that come with it. There’s really no point in getting out of the bed…you’ll just go back to bed the minute you stand up, black out, and fall like a rock. If you get this lovely little “non-killer,” go to the doctor. There’s little hope of riding it out. Good luck and let the flu-virus season begin.

BTW: Any suggestions on how to deal with migraines would be helpful….please?

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: Vatican gives two thumbs up

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, News Edit This

We own the five other installments of Harry Potter and have been looking forward to the release of the Half Blood Prince, so now we can purchase the movie-when it hits DVD-with the confidence of the Vatican. Cool.

Our video collection includes many movies in a series, but few with the excellent quality of the Potter series. For those who are fans of the movies, it’s common knowledge that the sequels have been progressively better than the original. Each of the movie sequels has added some depth to a character that we have watched mature and change with time. In the Sorcerer’s Stone, young Harry was a bit timid, not aware of wizardry and rather a loveable little sot, the next brought about a defiant teen, and the next certainly more skill for the young wizard. The last showed a Harry that had not existed in the minds of those that had not read the books; a young man with a new or altered attitude who seems to have come into his own.

We don’t have a favorite, but have favorite scenes from each of them. The troll in the bathroom, the image of Harry’s parents in the mirror, and the sliding-slimming bus as he makes his escape from the wicked uncle’s house. Each has brought new dimension and variance on what most have known as magic. With visions of muggles and warlocks, alike, we’re looking forward to this installment of the Potter series.

On a personal note, we’re not catholic so the Vatican could have given the film two thumbs down, and we would still purchase it. We have the others, this one is a must own.

No-Pay Employment: Working for others that make money

Published by dfallis under Humor, Living, News, Politics Edit This

They’re making money, they have job openings, but they’re not hiring, they’re utilizing a paycheck free system through unemployed individuals who do not want “white space” on their resumes. Reuters headline reads, “Crisis spurs people to work for free-good or bad”?

Ask any writer and they will tell you that people expecting to get something for nothing number in the thousands. This is only news because it is the result of a downturn in corporate jobs, not a new idea. Without ringing bells or dropping names you may well be surprised how much of what you read was never purchased, but boldly presented as a group of collectively intelligent beings that enjoy giving away their work. Before you assume that the literary world is the only place that has practiced the “fill the page for free” ambition, you must take into consideration the many forms of work that are unpaid or under-paid; the art world, library learning classes, and biblical indenturement to insure Christianity is spread worldwide (to name a few). Is it good or bad?  Ask the experts.

Ross Eisenbrey says, “it’s not only a bad idea but it’s also illegal.” Mr. Eisenbrey is the vice-president of the Economic Policy Institute(Washington D. C.).

The United States government has spent hour upon hour insuring that people would be properly paid for their efforts and work ethic only to see companies, large and small, find loop holes that allow them to make money off the efforts of those who will work for less-than nothing. Competition for jobs that are not necessary to the economy has become so stiff that many choose the wrong path in order to insure that their work be displayed in many mediums. When seeking a job, a lapse in time that indicates unemployment, does not necessarily take into account the facts surrounding economic downturn. Creditors do not care that you’re doing your part for the betterment of mankind when collecting debts owed them, and life does not go on with endless debts built-up against unemployed persons. So, is it a good or bad idea to work for free and fill “white space” on a resume?

To answer the question is only to question if your landlord, grocer, utility company, or lean holder would care that your reason for working “paycheck-less” is to fill “white space”? It’s a sad statement that this new administration has spawned a new type of worker, the slave. Happy job-hunting, and really…great resume!

Michael Jackson: Is this it

Published by dfallis under Living, News, Politics Edit This

The abuse that the Jackson children endured was real, according to most accounts, but Latoya added more to the charges when she decided to publish her own account of what happened during the early days of the Jackson’s life—for a profit. Now, with the news of Michael’s death finally dying down and most channels back on track with real problems in the world, Latoya has charged that conspirators killed her brother. There’s little doubt that Michael had a gaggle of doctors who supplied him with drugs on a regular basis, and those men/women should face charges but is it murder? Murders and conspiracy theories feed press mania with a great deal to “up” the ratings and a family might be “in-line” to make several million off “their” story, so is this it?

Our economy is tanking, the Obama administration is looking more like a Barnum-Bailey side show than a governing power, and people are out of work, so what do the lucratively minded, ambitiously active members of a dead man’s family do to stay in the news; accuse an assortment of unknown characters with killing their brother? It’s sad, truly sad to continue to profit from a family member after an already tragic demise. Like Elvis, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Morrison, and others before him, Michael is dead and no amount of denial or greedy publicity seeking will bring him back to life. It’s time to let go and move on…hope for the best for his children, wish him to find peace in the afterlife, and let the world go back to the daily rants and raves, riots and evil governments, and the many sad losses that families are experiences because their loved ones have passed on. People are losing jobs, homes, and self-respect all over the nation. Somehow that merits more attention than unproven conspiracy theories for personal gain, don’t you think?
