Superstitious Beliefs: Looking for those three good things
While growing up, many people of my generation were taught that good and bad things happened in threes. In the last two weeks, 6 people of the entertainment industry have died; Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, Billy Mays, Karl Malden, and the latest, Steve McNair. There have been good things happen, individually, for all of us but those have not made the national news, and this Monday started with news that as the fighting begins to wind down in Iran, China has had a surge of violence killing 140 and injuring 828 in the western Xinjiang region between Muslim Uighurs and Chinese Hans. Inner protests in Honduras have turned violent, according to AP news, and the Honduran military has denied re-entry to ousted President Zelaya who attempted to land in Honduras. So now that we have established the threes of bad, for each week, one is left to wonder when the threes of good will happen.
If you believe in a few old superstitions, such as looking for the bad will lead to finding the bad, while looking for the good will lead to good things, you have to realize that we all must look for the good things in our personal lives. It might seem like a bi-polar statement, but it’s truly how we find the things that make each of us happy and sad. Everyone is beginning to hear complaints about an “over-kill” of media coverage on the death of Michael Jackson, and the circumstances surrounding the McNair death are likely to lead to similar feelings, so take your complaints to the media as one man has done by emailing his favorite news outlet to let them know that he’s fed up with bad and ridiculous coverage of one event. Let’s start this week with a powerful and happy surge toward finding those three good things.
Leave a comment telling others about the three good things that have happened to you personally in the last two weeks. We could all use the laugh!
It’s Monday, July 06, 2009, do you know how many days are left before students return to classes?
