IRS: If it’s not a tax, why the IRS?
Arizona Representative John Shadegg made an appearance on Greta Van Susteren, last night, and explained a couple of the problems that Republicans are having with the health care reform bill that has been presented to the house this week. The first, and probably the most Constitutionally challenging, is the fine for those that do not purchase health insurance, once the bill has passed. The fine has been quoted to be $3800, but anyone refusing to pay the fine will be charged by the IRS. Now, didn’t Obama specifically state that it is not a tax, so why would the IRS take you to court to collect the fine? It gets worse, the fine can be as much as $25 thousand, and jail time according to the wording of the bill. When Shadegg attempted to get answers from Waxman, he was politely dismissed and the only Democrat that initially approached him on the matter has disappeared faster than a hooker’s drawers at the drop of a $20 bill. Mind you, that any health insurance purchased must first be approved by the government or the same applies.
The second portion that Mr. Shadegg found objectionable was the fact that on page 49, of the same bill, there is a codicil added that is the quickest insurance the insurance companies will have to avoid lawsuits by dissatisfied or aggrieved customers…it just gives them an out on any lawsuit that might occur. Let’s see, first the government loves the insurance companies, then they hate the insurance companies and make them the real monster in health care reform, and now…well, it pretty much seems like they’re giving them a free pass to continue with bad behavior. So like the federal government, of late, rewarding-once again-bad behavior and worse intentions.
Oh, and if you’re interested, Charlie Rangel is not the least interested in talking about tax evasion, or what might or might not happen in the next few weeks to his lofty goals and elitist position in the senate.
